The Center for Political Innovation is happy to announce that we have just released a new edition of Rosa Luxemburg’s famous anti-war pamphlet from 1915, “The Junius Pamphlet: The Crisis of Social-Democracy.” The text is where Luxemburg advanced her famous thesis about Europe facing “the triumph of imperialism and the collapse of all civilization as in ancient Rome: depopulation, desolation, degeneration – a great cemetery.” The famous piece, a defining text of the Zimmerwald movement of socialists who opposed the war, lays out the economic causes of the war and exposes the hypocrisy of the German Social-Democratic Party, which pledged to never send workers to kill other workers, but betrayed this promise and paved the way for a conflict that resulted in 20 million people being killed across the trenches and fields of the European mainland.
The new edition is entitled “The Junius Pamphlet: Rosa Luxemburg’s Warning About Endless Wars,” and it includes a new introduction by Caleb Maupin, the founder and director of the Center for Political Innovation. It also includes two additional pieces: Vladimir Lenin’s “Imperialism and the Split in Socialism,” getting to the economic roots of the social-democrats’ betrayal, and “What Does the Spartacus League Want?,” Rosa Luxemburg’s manifesto published amid the revolutionary crisis that followed the First World War.
This new volume containing important texts opposing war and imperialism was published because we believe imperialism is in a similar crisis in our time, rooted in the same foundations of poverty amid plenty, economic crisis caused by technological advancement, and newer levels of abundance. We hope people will read it and come to understand its lessons as we build a new movement to oppose imperialism and rescue America from heading further down the path toward degeneration, a path marked by endless wars to preserve the dying globalist/imperialist order.
