“TRAITOR! TRAITOR!” Palestine Protesters Confront NYC Mayor
As New York City Mayor Mamdani joined Jewish organizations around sunset on October 7th, 2026, thousands of pro-Palestine protesters assembled to oppose his participation in the ceremonies. Chants of “Traitor! Traitor!” and “You sold your people out!” flooded from the crowd, which bore Palestinian flags, drums, and signs calling out the genocide in Gaza.
The protesters were not simply outraged by Mamdani’s participation in October 7th commemorations, but also by his funneling of $26 million in taxpayer money to pro-Israel foundations, supposedly to fight antisemitism. Mamdani’s Islamic faith, membership in the Democratic Socialists of America, and rhetoric claiming to speak for the downtrodden had many hoping he would stand up to the Zionist establishment of the city. However, the Palestinian movement has come to see him as yet another fraud from the Democratic Party, lining up behind the Israel lobby while offering mild criticisms and banking on the symbolism of his ethnicity and religious background to placate the outraged majority.
This dramatic rejection of a social-democratic politician comes in light of a cutting-edge conversation between CPI founder and director Caleb Maupin and longtime broadcaster and commentator Garland Nixon. Nixon discussed allegations that Mamdani’s wife is connected to US-Israeli regime-change operations against the Syrian Arab Republic. Caleb Maupin argued that the Democratic Socialists of America was founded by ex-Trotskyites centered around Max Shachtman, who had connections to the CIA’s Congress for Cultural Freedom program.
The important research into left-wing history and social-imperialist infiltration conducted by Caleb Maupin and laid out in his book Trotsky and the Neoconservatives: The Whole Story could not be more relevant in light of the Palestine movement’s repudiation of Mamdani.
