Spreading Anti-Imperialism in Hollywood
CPI- Los Angeles talked to tourists and locals in the center of Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd’s Walk of Fame not long after that street was blocked off for the 98th Academy Awards ceremony which took place Sunday evening March 15th at the Dolby Theater.
We started at the official entrance to the Walk of Fame at a busy intersectionwith constant vehicle and foot traffic that features the stars of Elvis Presley and the Beatles.
While people were coming up to take pictures of the two infamous stars on the boulevard, some people approached to thank us for doing the work of protesting the war with Iran.
For instance, a couple from Vermont spoke to us about their concerns and we gave them a handout and a palm card to take back home with them. There were honks from cars passing through this popular intersection.
Proceeding up the narrow sidewalk of Hollywood Blvd., we walked over dozens of stars on the pavement. Each one represents a specific ceremony that usually featured the actual honoree, or honorees in the case of duos or groups, that were present on the spot at the time the ceremony took place. We walked over musician and actor David Bowie’s star which was a ceremony that I was actually able to attend in 1997.
Carrying our signs displaying evergreen economic messages and our anti-war signs, we then crossed the street to go on the other side to walk passed more historical sites and hundreds of tourists alone. We ended up at a spot on the public sidewalk and had conversations with people from all around the country including Alabama, Oregon and were even approached by a family from Minnesota that wanted to take a picture with us and our anti- war signs and U.S. flag. There was a former veteran and disillusioned Trump supporter and other locals connecting with us and as usual many people read something on at least one of our signs.
While many people are still going on with their lives and seem oblivious to the horrible wars and genocide, which may seem hard to believe, and may still be in denial of their growing economic concerns, CPI L.A. sees hope in the responses of hundreds of people or more in just this one location. The body language obviously indicates that something is terribly wrong with what we are allowing to happen in our world right now in our name.
We need a movement to demand a government of action for working families. Economic growth and abundance to benefit everyone! The message of CPI will continue to spread the more we get out there to the masses of people.
