Libertarian Chair Promises to Raise Uhuru with DOJ, Accepts Award at Great Unity Convention

At the Center for Political Innovation’s 2025 Great Unity Convention in Chicago, an award was presented to Angela McArdle, Chair of the Libertarian Party and organizer of the Rage Against the War Machine protests in Washington, D.C.

When presenting the award, CPI founder Caleb Maupin emphasized how important the RAWM rally on February 19th, 2023 had been because it was a “real coalition” — including Republicans, Democrats, members of Congress, Tulsi Gabbard, military voices, and others — all opposing the march toward World War Three and speaking in support of whistleblowers and anti-war voices like Julian Assange. The Center for Political Innovation was an official sponsor of the rally, and after Joe Walsh baited McArdle over CPI’s participation, Angela invited Caleb onto her YouTube channel for a discussion about Communism and anti-imperialism. On the evening of the event, CPI hosted a reception for Scott Ritter at a hotel near the White House. Scott Ritter was pushed out of the event despite most organizers wanting him to speak, and CPI was happy to host him along with 200 anti-war activists at an after-party the evening of the rally.

McArdle graciously accepted the award and thanked the event organizers for the warm reception she had received, despite differing political perspectives. She told the full story of how the rally was organized, despite all kinds of controversy and negotiations. She ended her remarks by saying, “I want to close with a promise of an act of continuing unity with you. I have a great relationship with the current administration, and I am going to mention to the DOJ [Department of Justice] the next time I am in Washington, D.C., that it would be a great thing for them to drop the Uhuru case.”

The crowd then erupted in applause, chanting “Hands Off Uhuru!”

She continued, “And it would be such a healing, wonderful thing for our movement.”

Caleb Maupin thanked her for her remarks, saying, “Wow, we’re going to hold you to that promise, Angela. We’ve got it on tape.”
