CPI attends Uhuru Appeal
Chairman Yeshitela and the Uhuru Movement Continue the Fight for Anti-Colonial Free Speech

On July 22nd I had the honor of representing Caleb Maupin and the Center for Political Innovation at the Uhuru 3 Appeal in Atlanta. Caleb was unable to attend because he needed to cover an important Hearing in the Nicolas Maduro Case which was taking place the same day in New York City. Let that sink in. On the very same day,
the same Regime, the same Department of (In)Justice, the same wicked Government that was arguing in Atlanta that Zoom Calls, leaflets, speeches, and City Council Campaigns are an existential threat to “American Democracy” was also arguing in New York that they have the right to kidnap, imprison, and torture the Elected President of a neighbor country. This shows that under the Rules Based Order the Rulers make the Laws. But this will all change soon. Their system is crumbling and dying and their attacks come out of desperation not from a place of strength.
The Uhuru Movement mobilized to Pack the Courthouse. The Government Lawyers had to walk past a line of people over a block long waiting to get in, and they were visibly unnerved. We filled the main Courtroom and over 20 of us watched from an overflow room that the Court had to set up. There is great interest in this case among the people.
The judges interrupted our lawyers often, using up most of the 15 minutes a piece that each side was allowed. A few of us were taken back by this at first, until Uhuru leaders reminded us that most Federal Appeals are decided on the briefs alone. In the 11th District in particular only 13% of Appeals are granted Oral Arguments. This case received Oral Arguments and that proves that the Court views it seriously. This Case was granted Oral Arguments because of the attention it is receiving among the People and across the Political Spectrum because of the Fight Back and the organizing of Chairman Yeshitela, the African People's Socialist Party, and their allies.
The night before the hearing there was a rally and the afternoon after the hearing there was a Debrief/Summation. Both were organized for the Party by the National Conference of Black Lawyers, the Davis Bozeman Johnson Law Firm, and, most significantly, the Georgia State University Black Law Students Association. The participation by the students was numerous and energetic. It is clear that a new generation of lawyers and leaders will continue the fight against Colonialism and Imperialism. And will participate in the great work of building something new.
