AGROPASTORAL AND FISHING OFFENSIVE 2023-2025
President Ibrahim Traoré understands that as long as a nation does not have food sovereignty, it is not truly free. The revolutionary government has launched the Agropastoral and Fishing Offensive 2023-2025 to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2026. By modernizing agriculture with mechanization and infrastructure, the initiative boosts local production, reduces dependence on imports and empowers rural communities through massive government investment in modern equipment, seeds, fertilizer, and subsidized services.
At the 2023 Russia-Africa Summit, in St. Petersburg, Russia, Traore and representatives from Representatives from 49 African nations, including 17 heads of state, defied pressure from the West and attended the conference. President Putin vowed to deliver 25,000 tons of free grain to Burkina Faso as part of a larger shipment that also went to Mali, Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Somalia, and the Central African Republic. Traoré took the opportunity to thank Russia and to address African leaders about the necessity of breaking free from Imperialism and creating food self-sufficiency to care for their own people.
In partnership with the African Development Bank, Burkina Faso launched the The Emergency Project for Increasing Agricultural Production in Burkina Faso (PURPA-BF) on February 6, 2024, at the national Ministry for Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries in Ouagadougou. Under its African Emergency Food Production Facility, the African Development Bank Group. provided €38.4 million for the project. They delivered nearly 9,000 tons of certified climate adapted seeds and 36,000 tons of fertilizer to 330,000 farmers -more than half of whom are women, internally displaced individuals and youth- to help increase production of maize, rice, soya, cowpea, sorghum and wheat in the country's major irrigated plains around Bagrépôle, Bama, Banzon and Karfiguéla. This project is expected to boost national rice production by 430,000 tons and maize production by 707,000 tons.

Reconstructed English Translation:
Officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, Burkinabè men and women, compatriots.
We are gathered here today at this sacred place to honor the memory and the legacy of Captain Thomas Sankara, hero of the Burkinabè people and emblematic figure of dignity, integrity, and commitment to justice.
Thomas Sankara does not belong to the past. Thomas Sankara is not a memory; he is a promise. A promise of sovereignty fully assumed. A promise of independence that is real and not proclaimed only in words. A promise of a Burkina Faso standing upright, master of its choices and of its destiny.
This promise calls upon us — leaders, soldiers, citizens — to act. It calls upon us to refuse resignation, fatalism, and submission.
The enemies of our people are known.
They are insecurity, corruption, injustice, dependency, and the loss of confidence in ourselves.
Captain Thomas Sankara taught us that a people who stand up, who organize themselves, who work, and who defend their land, cannot be defeated.
Today, as our country faces trials, sacrifices, and hardships, his message remains of striking relevance. It reminds us that freedom has a price, and that this price must sometimes be paid with courage, discipline, and sacrifice.
This military ceremony is not a ritual without meaning. It is a reaffirmation.
It is a commitment renewed before history and before our people.
By honoring Thomas Sankara, we honor the values for which he lived and for which he died: integrity, patriotism, loyalty to the people, and rejection of domination in all its forms.
Soldiers of Burkina Faso: You are the heirs of this spirit. You are called upon to defend the homeland with honor, discipline, and devotion, while remaining firmly rooted among the people from whom you come.
Burkinabè men and women: The construction of our nation is a collective work. No savior will come from elsewhere. Our salvation lies in our unity, our work, and our determination.
Let us therefore ensure that the promise carried by Thomas Sankara does not remain an empty word, but becomes a living reality — in our actions, in our choices, and in our daily conduct.
Long live the memory and the promise of Captain Thomas Sankara. Long live the armed forces of Burkina Faso. Long live a free, sovereign, and dignified Burkina Faso.
